Second step of the endo microbio research
Study Design
- isolated bacteria combinations from root canals of teeth with necrotic pulps and periapical bone destruction
- inoculated subcutaneously in guinea pigs to test for capacity to induce abscess formation and transmissible infections
- transmissible infections
- could be induced with combinations obtained from teeth with purulent apical inflammation
- could not be induced with combinations from symptomless teeth with chronic apical inflammation
- all combinations that induced transmissible infections containes strains of Bacteroides melaninogenicus or B. Asaccharolyticus
Results
- Purulent inflammation in apical region may be induced by specific combinations of bacteria in root canal, particular B melaninogenicus or B asaccharolyticus
- but, strains needed support of additional microorganisms to achieve pathogenicitiy
- all bacterial combinations induced acute inflammation with accumulation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and formatoin of an abscess
